Missing you all,

Welcome
Hello Year 3,
Welcome to our new Home Learning page where you will find your learning whilst school is closed.
We have organised each task into hot, spicy and extra spicy. Have a go at choosing the option that you think will be best for you. If you are not sure which option is right for you then first try spicy. If spicy is too challenging then you can try hot or if spicy is too easy then try extra spicy. You only need to do one of the hot, spicy or extra spicy options.
What age can my child start social networking?
As a parent it’s important you know that all social networking platforms (or social networking apps, if on a smartphone) have age limits. Some social networks use technologies that might not be right for some ages, or engage with communities that are made up of people much older than your child.

Kindness

Kindness planted in the soil,
Of another with a need...
Will one day blossom back to you,
A product of this spirit seed!

Others
By Unknown
It doesn't matter who you are,
Or what you have, or do
If you give your very best
The best returns to you.
A law of compensation works,
We get just what we earn.
If we love others with our hearts,
We get love in return.
The little things we sometimes do
For others day by day
Return quite unexpectedly
In some peculiar way.

In Kindness
By Anne Marie Cline
Kindness speaks the words,
Your heart could never speak.
Your wings hold me up,
And give me strength when I am weak.
The warmth of your protection,
Brings music to my heart.
You open up the doors,
You show me where to start.

The Little Things
By Margaret Lindsey
The little things are most worthwhile
A quiet word, a look, a smile,
A listening ear that's quick to share
Another's thoughts, another's care...
Though sometimes they may seem quite small,
These little things mean most of all.
The Boy Who Grew Dragons by Andy Shepherd
A suggestions for some reading that Year 3 can share just like we would at the end of the day when we were at school. The author of this book, Andy Shepherd has read the whole book aloud and posted the videos to Youtube. That means Year 3 can do some shared reading together and share this book even while we are not at school. Isn't that special?
You can listen to this book during half term, after half term as part of your home learning or whenever you have time. I won't give away any spoilers in my book review so you can fit the book in whatever way works for you! You can listen to the book in big chunks or chapter by chapter. Each chapter lasts about 5-10 minutes so perhaps you could listen to one chapter a day. Whatever works for you!

Victory Day in Europe
Victory Day marks the end of World War II in Europe, have a go at the quiz below and see how many questions you can get right!
We have also included some templates down below for your bunting flag. Don't worry if you don't have a printer because you can draw your own on a piece of paper. That's what we will be doing.

Science Plant Investigation
Miss Jarmson has taken home the plants from our science investigation so we can continue to investigate how much water our pea plants need. Miss Jarmson will post a picture every few days for you to observe from home. Use your observation skills to check if your predictions were correct! Can you tell someone what you have observed?
Aim: To investigate how much water pea plants need
Method
1. Add 0 ml of water to Plant 1 each day.
2. Add 25 ml of water (moderate amount) to Plant 2 each day.
3. Add 100 ml of water (large amount) to Plant 3 each day.
4. Wait, observe the results and measure the plant growth with a ruler each day.
Final results - 21.04.2020 - Day 41
Which plant has grown most effectively (the best)? Why do you think this is?
Why has plant 1 not grown at all?
What has happened to plant 3? Why do you think this is?
Day 35- 15/04/2020
01/04/2020 - 21 days after planting
How tall are the plants now? Which plant is thriving?
26/03/2020 – 15 days after planting
(virtual ruler done to scale to match real life measurements)
Daily Diary Project
The 2020 coronavirus outbreak is a very big historical event so one thing we suggest that you can do during this time is to write a daily diary. This can help you to notice how you are feeling. Perhaps, it is also something you might want to look back on when you are older. Why not try writing a few sentences every day? You can write as much or as little as you want. If you are not sure what to write then you can explain what you did today, write how you are feeling and write something positive to help keep your spirits up. Remember to add the date each day!
Miss Jarmson has added an example of her day yesterday to give you an idea.
Science
This Live Lesson will help your child to think and work like a scientist, with a focus on taste, nutrition, and the energy that food provides.

Drawing Lessons
We’ve found some really fun videos by Ed Vere that teach you how some of his amazing characters. He’ll be uploading new videos every Wednesday and Friday at 10am, whilst schools schools are closed due to Coronavirus. So far his has two videos teaching you how to draw Leonard the Lion and Mr Big the Gorilla. Miss Brook had a go at drawing them (have a look below). Why don’t you have a go?
